General Musicianship Aims

 

Incorporate GM during tasters – Focus on exercises around Pulse and Meter, Note values, and Listening. Recap/cover semiquavers-semibreves (including dotted rhythms), A-G on treble and bass clef.

 

By the end of term 2 they should:

  • Recap semiquavers-semibreves (including dotted rhythms), A-G on treble and bass clef.
  • Understand the concept of sharps and flats (homework pages 19-20)
  • Be able to read and write a one 8ve scale for their instrument (even if they can’t play it yet).
    • Violin – D or A Major (E minor for those more advanced)
    • Cello – G or D Major (A minor for those more advanced)
    • Flute – F or G Major (E Minor for those more advanced)
    • Clarinet – F or G Major (A Minor for those more advanced)
    • Bassoon – F or G Major (E Minor for those more advanced)
    • Trumpet – C Major (A Minor for those more advanced)
    • Trombone – Bb or C Major (C or D Minor for those more advanced)
    • Guitar – G Major (or A Minor for those more advanced)
    • Percussion – C Major (A Minor for those more advanced)
  • Clap a pulse and identify it was 2 or 3 time (Aural Training in Practice 1-3)

 

By the end of term 3 they should:

  • Understand simple time signatures (homework pages 46-48)
  • Know Grade 1 General Signs (Crescendo, articulation) and Italian performance directions.
  • Be able to read simple rhythms including rests.
  • Be able to do Grade 1 ABRSM Aural exercises.
