Algebra<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A part of maths dealing with symbols (usually Greek and Latin letters like: <\/span>x<\/i><\/span> or <\/span>\u03c0<\/span>), to represent numbers and quantities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Algorithm<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A set of rules or instructions or a process designed to be used in calculations or other problem-solving tasks, usually by a computer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apothecary<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A person who sells drugs and medicines. These days, they are called a pharmacist. <\/span><\/p>\n

Astrolabe<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

An instrument used to make astronomical measurements to help observations<\/span><\/p>\n

Astronomy<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Study of the sun, moon, stars, planets, comets, gas, galaxies, dust<\/span><\/p>\n

Cancer<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A tumour that tends to spread both locally and if not treated to other parts of the body. <\/span><\/p>\n

Celestial<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

An object in space.<\/span><\/p>\n

Crystallography<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A science that deals with the form and structure of crystals. <\/span><\/p>\n

Diabetes<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A disease that occurs when there is too much blood glucose (or blood sugar) in the body. Blood glucose comes from the food you eat and is your main source of energy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eclipse<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Is the complete or partial obscuring of a celestial body by another. It occurs when three celestial objects are aligned. <\/span><\/p>\n

Entomology<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The study of insects. An Entomologist is the specialist or person studying them. <\/span><\/p>\n

Equinox<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The moment in time when the sun is exactly above the Equator and when Day and Night are the same length.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fortification<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The strengthening or addition of something. In food this relates to adding vitamins and minerals to food which doesn\u2019t normally contain them. <\/span><\/p>\n

Geology<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The science dealing with the physical structure and substance of the earth like the rocks from which it is composed and all the changes it has undergone and continues to undergo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gynaecology<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Medical speciality concerned with the care of women from pregnancy until after the delivery of a baby.<\/span><\/p>\n

Insulin<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A hormone that regulates the amount of sugar (glucose) in the blood. Insulin is produced in the pancreas. <\/span><\/p>\n

Meteor<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A small body of matter in the solar system. You can only see one when it falls into the earth\u2019s atmosphere where the heat of friction can cause it to glow brightly for a short time. <\/span><\/p>\n

Meteorite<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A meteor that reaches the surface of the earth. <\/span><\/p>\n

Naturalist<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

An expert in the study of natural history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pacifist<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A person who is against war and violence.<\/span><\/p>\n

Palaentology<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The study of the history of life on earth based on fossils. A Palaentologist is the person or expert who studies them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Particle<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

One of the very small parts of matter \u2013 e.g. a molecule, atom or electron. It essentially means a very small quantity or piece. <\/span><\/p>\n

Penicillin<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

An antibiotic produced either naturally by penicillia or in the laboratory, which is used as a cure to destroy diseases creating bacteria. <\/span><\/p>\n

Philosophy<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Literally the love of wisdom (in Greek), philosophy is the study of the fundamental truth about people, the world in which they live and their relationships to the world and each other.<\/span><\/p>\n

Radioactivity<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The energy and subatomic particles emitted by certain types of matter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rheumatoid Arthritis<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A long-term condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. <\/span><\/p>\n
