The Hoxton Singers

Even if you have never sung before, The Hoxton Singers are proof that it is never too late to get up and start!

The choir’s performances include Radio Show at Hoxton Hall, a series of songs entitled Memories, a pantomime based on Cinderella, and various Christmas concerts, Hoxton Songs, an intergenerational performance with pupils from Haggerston School, The Firebucket (created by the performers) and The Palace in the Sky, an HMDT/ENO Baylis Community Opera at The Hackney Empire in 2000. In 2004, members of the group appeared in HMDT’s production of On London Fields at The Hackney Empire, and in November 2006, they returned to The Empire to perform in I’ll Be Seeing You, HMDT’s tribute to the battle for The Home Front. The Hoxton Singers

The Hoxton Singers recorded a CD, You Make Me Feel So Young, with Young Jazz Hackney in 2006, and performed as part of the Capital Age Festival in London’s City Hall in February 2007. In 2008 they were filmed by the BBC as part of the Power to the People documentary strand which led to selected members of the group joining The Zimmers and recording My Generation at Abbey Road Studios which hit the charts.

Recent appearances include Shoreditch Festival, The Geffrye Museum, Sutton House, Salvation Army, South Bank and the Tricycle Theatre’s Festival Not Acting My Age.

Projects

The Toy Box
The Hoxton Singers worked with Key Stage 2 pupils from St Monica’s Primary School to create a new piece about toys, sharing experiences from their childhood. Working with writer and Director Helen Eastman and composer and pianist Russell Hebblewhite, all the participants visted the Museum of Childhood and helped create lyrics and music for the new work.
