‘Ode to Joy’

Hi everyone!

This year is Beethoven’s 200th birthday! To celebrate, we’re doing a big performance of one of his most famous pieces, the Ode to Joy theme from his 9th Symphony. All students are involved in this, Reds, Yellows, Greens, and Blues! Obviously we would have loved to do this in person, but just because we’re online doesn’t mean we can’t do something creative!

Below are links to pdf parts. We would like you to learn them, and send video recordings back to us by 1pm on Friday 26 June. You will need to use the guide track, which is also below.

We’re also going to share a video about how to improvise around Ode to Joy if you want to have a go at that!

To record yourself whilst listening to a guide track, you just need some headphones, something to record with (a smart phone or computer), and something to play the guide track on.

Plug your headphones into what you’re listening to the guide track on, and make sure the volume is high enough that you can hear the track AND play.

Once you’re all set up, someone else in your household can then film you playing your part using their phone or smart device!

You can then send the video to saturday.programme@hmdtmusic.org.uk using WeTransfer.com.
